Charles Kraus teaches memory tricks

When Lake Forest Park resident Charles Kraus was a kid, he had a lousy memory. Fortunately, instead of learning to live with it, he was introduced to a series of memory enhancing techniques, the study of Pneumonics.

“I was an amateur magician, and one day, Harry Lorayne, a well-known professional entertainer, stopped by our teen magic club to teach us a few tricks. In addition to being a wonderful sleight-of-hand prestidigitator, he was one of the country’s leading memory experts. Calling it a trick, Harry showed us how to instantly memorize a long list of items shouted out at random from the audience.

“The most astounding thing of all wasn’t the trick.  That was amazing.  But even better, the method, the secret, was so simple that by the time we left our meeting all of us teen magicians were able to duplicate Harry’s effect!  That was astounding.”

At 2:00pm on Sunday, October 6, 2013 the Green Lake Library will host Charles as he addresses the day to day issues confronted by mature adults – taming forgetfulness, remembering names and facts. Charles will demonstrate and teach classic memory secrets that help us keep track of personal data, names, phone numbers, shopping lists, and more.

“Forgetfulness is a burden.  Did we lock the door? Did we turn off the lights?  What about the oven?  Did we feed the fish?  Where, exactly, did we park that car?  What were those things we planned to do today?  What did your wife ask you to stop and buy on the way home from the office?  Why exactly did you want to call your aunt -- her birthday?  Which birthday?  Did you pay the bill, send the note, and where are your glasses?
“My objective is to provide tips and systems that can be used every day, by all of us.   This is instantaneous long term memory improvement.  It is a great way to recalibrate skills using methods that can be mastered on the spot,” Kraus says.

The Green Lake Branch of the Seattle Public Library is located at 7364 E Green Lake Dr N, Seattle 98115, 206-684-7547.
