Whether you're steering the wheel of a ship or an old "land yacht," boating season means our moveable bridges get a workout. The season kicks off this weekend, with maritime festivities closing the Montlake Bridge in Seattle.

If you regularly commute across Lake Washington, keep in mind that during boating season, the State Route 520 bridge drawspan will open more frequently. Due to construction on the new bridge we're required to open it with two hour advance notice from a boater. To avoid getting stuck on the span, keep an eye out for advisories on highway message signs, and sign up for text/email alerts that will give you a two hour heads up.
