Obituary: Donald Q. Smith 1921-2010

Shoreline resident Donald Q. Smith passed away peacefully on November 9, 2010 at the age of 89. 

Born August 25, 1921 in Seattle, he attended John B. Allen School and graduated from Lincoln in 1940. His military service began in 1942 where his unit set up communications for troop landings from New Guinea to the Philippines. After his discharge he attended the University of Washington. 

In 1946 he married Virginia Godfrey-Pearson and together they had a daughter Carol (Dave) Solle and son Dean. He designed service stations for Mobile Oil and was a contract administrator and treasurer of the credit union for the Port of Seattle, from which he retired. He loved to ski, camp, sail, dance, party and golf.

In 1973 he married Evelyn Westerling-Nugent and they had 26 wonderful years until her death in 1999. In addition to his daughter and son, he is survived by step-daughter Patty Ellis, grandchildren Jeff, Blake, Melissa, Alicia, Harley, six great-grandchildren and Evie’s kids Mike, Tom, Mark and Karen Lawrence plus many dear friends. There will be a private celebration in December of a long life well lived.
