El Oso restaurant open in Third Place Commons

Sunday, May 30, 2010

The El Oso Mexican restaurant is open for business in Third Place Commons in the Lake Forest Park Towne Centre, next to the Big Time which was also added in the past year. It is run by the Honey Bear Bakery people and replaces a previous Mexican restaurant. The seating area to the side of the counter is still being renovated.

Third Place Commons has free, live music on the stage every Friday and Saturday evening.

the cuban sandwich is nice - the cashier chick is cute but not especially friendly but the rest of the staff is a lot of fun-
pretty good as 'food court' food is concerned

My husband and I have had nothing but good experiences eating at El Oso. We think it is creative and delicious food that brings a healthier flair to Latin American cuisine.

My all-time favorite is The Salad with grilled steak added. It is a large plate of beautiful lettuces and cabbage with several other grilled vegetables including zucchini and sweet potato, black beans, and grated cheese added. It has a delicious citrus dressing available on the side. My husband loves the Abodo Burrito, packed with grilled chicken, rice, beans, and lettuce.

Tonight I enjoyed the Abodo Taco plate with chicken tacos filled with lettuce, cabbage, a small amount of chopped, grilled chicken, salsa, and with a squeeze of lime on soft tortilla shells. The plate also had a choice of pinto or black beans and Spanish rice. I enjoyed the vegetables, rice, and meat and gave my tortillas to my husband to enjoy for a snack some other day. I liked that I could have as many vegetables as I wanted and the beans and rice were portion controlled to offering moderate serving sizes.

The service has always been good when we have eaten there in the evenings.
